Falls Prevention

Staying Steady

Staying Steady is a fun, easy community falls prevention exercise programme that helps build strength, balance confidence and enjoyment to older adults over 65 years who may have fallen, or are unsteady on their feet. Also for people under 65 whose balance may be affected by dementia, Parkinson’s or having had a stroke.

The programme runs for 16 weeks minimum, with one session each week. Sessions are delivered in over 14 community settings across Southend by Postural Stability Instructors. Participants are also expected to complete home exercises twice weekly for the duration of the programme.

At the end of 16 weeks you should be feeling more confident when out and about. Further sessions may be advised if you need more support with steadiness, confidence and bone health.

To get the most out of the programme we recommend that you attend at least 15 sessions. If too many sessions are missed you may be withdrawn.

Referrals are accepted from all health and social care professionals, and clients can also self-refer.

Participants will be asked for a voluntary nominal contribution of £1 per session with refreshments provided. Staying Steady is run by Public Health, Southend-on-Sea Borough Council.
